NYAI’s DJ & Audio Production program is built for aspiring DJs who want more than a quick tutorial. Over 10 weeks, students learn the technical, musical, and performance skills needed to step behind the decks with confidence.
From understanding sound and organizing a music library to beatmatching, EQ, effects, turntablism, and live performance preparation, this course gives students a structured path from beginner fundamentals to a final DJ set.
Week 1 — Welcome Week: Introduction to DJing
Define your musical goals, learn the basic DJ setup, and begin navigating Rekordbox or Serato while organizing your first music library.
Week 2 — Sound & Hearing
Explore how sound works, how people perceive it, and how different spaces affect the way music is heard in a live setting.
Week 3 — Music Theory for DJs
Learn the fundamentals of phrasing, keys, rhythm, timing, counting, and song structure so you can mix more musically.
Week 4 — Beatmatching & EQ I
Build the core skill of syncing two tracks through BPM, phase alignment, cueing, and pitch control.
Week 5 — Beatmatching & EQ II
Combine beatmatching and EQ to create cleaner, more balanced transitions with and without sync.
Week 6 — Transitions, Looping & Effects
Use echo, reverb, filters, loops, delay, flanger, and other creative tools to shape energy and style.
Week 7 — Turntablism
Explore scratching, cutting, transforming, beat juggling, backspinning, and other techniques that turn the decks into instruments.
Week 8 — Live DJ Performance
Learn how to build a set, read the room, manage energy, understand acoustics, and carry yourself professionally behind the decks.
Week 9 — DJ Branding & Business
Develop your DJ identity and learn the basics of marketing, booking gigs, and working with contracts.
Week 10 — Final: Your DJ Set
Prepare and perform your own 30-minute DJ set with instructor feedback, then showcase your progress for peers, friends, and family.
